Indian Ocean Tsunami 10 Years Later

June 3, 2014. Banda Aceh, Indonesia. When he’s not studying at university, Nur Hadi spends his time as a volunteer EMT for the Indonesian Red Cross. Determined to help his town stay safe during emergencies, he and other university students provide medical care during natural disasters, at the local soccer games, and for any other emergencies that happen in their town. The American Red Cross has funded EMT training for the volunteers and helped their local Red Cross branch—which was severely impacted by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami—to develop its programs over the past ten years. Helping local Red Cross branches to be strong and self-sustaining is a vital piece of the American Red Cross’s disaster preparedness work – ensuring that volunteers and first responders are ready to act in times of crisis.
